如今大视场巡天项目越来越多,全球范围内每年发现的光学暂现源候选体多达数万,而用于光谱观测的设施却十分有限,获取光谱需要耗费大量时间,再加上此类天体在达到最大亮度之后会很快变暗消失,种种原因导致光学暂现源巡天早已饱和,只有大约十分之一的候选体能够及时获得光谱并被证认。星明天文台也曾在光谱方面受制于人:由于缺少光谱仪,星明天文台发现的光学暂现源候选体只能等待其他个人或机构拍摄光谱,许多不错的候选体还没有获得光谱,便已变暗消失,而大家对此却无能为力,真是“无可奈何星暗去”。
2023年3月,星明天文台购入了一款名为Alpy 600的低分辨率光谱仪,安装于米德16寸望远镜,并于北京时间2023年3月31日凌晨“开光”,成功获得HIP 66234和HIP 66359的光谱,进入测试阶段,5月底更换了相机与主镜,目前安装于宁波市教育局-新疆天文台望远镜(NEXT)上。
